Hi Mellisa, my name is Kathryn, I'm 31yrs old and have a 60* curve. I put off surgery 10yrs ago-the curve hasn't so much increased but the twisting, hump and pain have. Scoliosis now controls every aspect of my life. I'm due to have surgery (half my…
You will lose flexibility with a spinal fusion, but if your curve is mostly thoracic, it can be a partial fusion. Some people have pain afterwards and some do not. Since you are flexible and your muscles aren't atrophied, you'd probably have good re…
A good friend of mine has a clinic in Milwaukee, WI that offers Schroth. I do some work with her to help inform people about scoliosis and Schroth. Three of the clinic's PTs studied this technique in Europe and have provided Schroth treatment (group…
I also live in Canada and I got the book a little while ago. I simply ordered it from www.schrothmethod.com. It seems like its audience is mainly physical therapists, but it's not too bad. It's got pictures, which help you understand. I also got the…
My wife went to the treatment in Germany where it is well accepted and tried and proven. It has been used for more than 60 years down there and is approved by the medical welfare system. We didn't have too much success with it, but probably because…
The book was primarily written for physical therapists, to give them an encyclopedic overview of the system. But as one non-therapist reader said, "it isn't brain surgery." Most people can understand virtually all of it if you have a medical diction…
I just ordered this book not too long ago and am waiting for it to come in. I've been worrying that the explanation of the treatment may be too technical or scientific. Do you know if the book is written in an easy to follow way?

Spinal fusion surgery is rarely *necessary*, though the orthopedists will recommend it for curvatures about 45 degrees, especially when increasing. The fusion would limit your flexibility in dancing and gymnastics for sure. There is also a significa…

Hi, thanks for the comment. Any info is helpful. I'm not sure i mentioned it but Marcus was born with multiple upper limb abnormalities. The most significant being he's missing his right arm. The hanging thing wont work but there are many other stretching exercises I've found. Such as laying on one of those big inflattable exercise balls. Do you know anything about the Shriners hospital in LA? That's where he is being treated. Thanks again and I hope you are well. Let me know how your surgurey goes if you want. -Anthony
