Na no surgery for Gail . I'm doing well i have moderate scoliosis 24 degree lower back curve. I feel twisty at times and can be achey , but i dont need any strong medicine just Aleve or xtra strengh tylenol. I walk every day and that helps keep me from getting too stiff. I'm one of the lucky ones though many people don't have it as easy. I can work full time and some people can't so ive got to be thankful. it's great to speak with people that understand how it feels to be different.

I'm sorry about your son , it must be a lot to go through. I have no idea about the brace as I haven't been in one. The doctors have told me that sometimes it doesn't help. I'm going in for surgery in a few months time though.
Sorry I can't really help x

He is your only son i cant imagine what you are going through. I have scoliosis but not severe its moderate 24 degree but my son doesn't have it thank God. I bet you never dreamed anything like this would happen to your child especially since you look from your picture that you don't have any noticeable disorders. Life can really turn upside down .

Sorry i have no idea, ive never been in a brace and well im going in for surgery during the summer. Sorry about that, but i know for a fact that hanging on the monkey bars really helps stretch out your back, and it relieves the pain. Also my back actually looked like it was improving after a daily routine of hanging. Sorry that i cant give you much more.

I've worn two braces, from the beginning of sixth grade year to the beginning of my freshman year when I outgrew the second one, and just accepted i need surgery. I know I wasn't as young as your son, and he might have to wear it longer, but I'll try and help. I hated the brace, it was always so uncomfortable, and you wanted to take it off all the time. It gets so hot and sweaty in it. I advice having your son definitely wear an undershirt and some longer underwear underneath it. I don't know how far it will expand on your son, but, wherever that thing touches skin, you sweat, and it rubs against you, just hurting. So an undershirt, really is essential. I had an entire drawer full, as well as some little shorts that I also wore. I wore sweats practically the entire time. It really does a number for your confidence as well. So don't ever make any negative comments to him regarding it. I know he's only two, but if he has to wear for any serious length of time, eventually he'll realized what's going on. If You have any other questions, i'll try to help, even though i don't know how much I could.

Thanks to all

Hello, Thank you for your thoughtful responses. Since my last post, a few changes have occured. First, the doctors at Shriners told us that his missing limb did not, in fact, cause his scoliosis. He said that many of his patients with one or no limbs never develope a curve. Oh well. Second, he has been wearing his brace. He is in his third week and is up to approx. 17+ hours per day. The first few days were rough. I'm embarrassed to say that I think I took it harder than he did. However, I feel… Continue

My son Marcus

My son has a 49T/60L. He is 2.5 yrs old. He was born missing his right arm, thumb on remaining left hand, and elbow fused at approx. 45degrees. We believe a blood issue (MTHFR) on my wife's side is the cause of the upper-limb abnormalities. This assymetry has caused scoliosis. He is being seen at Shriners Childrens hospital,L.A. He will recieve his brace in a few weeks. Any advice would be greately appreciated. Anyone know anybody who wore one of these braces for MANY years? He's gonna need surg… Continue
